Where things stood before SYNE was engaged.
A regional stock exchange wanted to launch an issuer-wide ESG disclosure and rating programme to keep pace with larger peer exchanges, but had neither the analyst capacity nor the methodology infrastructure to build one internally within its target 12-month window.
Listed issuers on the exchange varied hugely in ESG maturity, from large-cap firms already reporting under international frameworks to small-cap issuers with no prior disclosure experience at all - any programme would need to work for both ends of that range from day one.
Approach
What SYNE actually did.
SYNE built a white-labelled version of the ESG Ratings methodology under the exchange's own brand, with a tiered disclosure pathway that let smaller issuers start with a lighter reporting template before graduating to the full methodology in later cycles.
A structured onboarding programme - webinars, a dedicated issuer helpdesk, and a grace period before ratings were made public - was built in specifically to bring lower-maturity issuers along rather than penalising them in year one.
Outcome
Where things stand now.
92% of listed issuers participated in the programme's first cycle, well above the exchange's initial 70% internal target. The tiered pathway meant even first-time disclosers were able to publish a rating rather than opting out entirely.
The exchange has since referenced the programme in its own investor marketing as a differentiator versus two comparable regional exchanges that do not yet offer issuer-wide ESG ratings.
